About the Journal
Everything you need to know about the scope, objectives, and editorial policies of the Journal of Molecular Parasitology and Microbiology.
Journal Scope
The Journal of Molecular Parasitology and Microbiology publishes original research across the full breadth of parasitology and microbiology, with particular emphasis on molecular and cellular mechanisms of infection. The journal's scope encompasses the biology, genetics, biochemistry, and ecology of parasites, bacteria, viruses, and fungi of medical, veterinary, and public health significance. Submissions addressing host-pathogen interactions, immune responses, antimicrobial resistance, diagnostics, vector biology, and epidemiology are all within scope, as are interdisciplinary studies bridging molecular biology with field-based or clinical research.
Objectives
The journal seeks to provide a rigorous, freely accessible platform for disseminating research that advances the understanding of parasitic and microbial disease. Our objectives include fostering high-quality, reproducible science; supporting researchers from all regions, including those in disease-endemic and resource-limited settings; and accelerating the translation of laboratory findings into diagnostic, therapeutic, and public health applications. We aim to serve as a trusted venue where methodologically sound research receives fair, constructive, and timely peer review regardless of the author's institutional affiliation or country of origin.
Aims
Specifically, the journal aims to: publish novel findings on the molecular and cellular biology of parasites and microorganisms; document emerging patterns of antimicrobial and antiparasitic resistance; support diagnostic innovation for infectious disease detection in both clinical and field settings; and provide a venue for epidemiological and vector biology research that informs public health policy. The journal also aims to promote transparency in reporting, encourage data sharing where appropriate, and maintain publication practices consistent with international standards of research integrity.
Publication Ethics
The journal is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics and follows guidance consistent with the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Authors are expected to present an accurate account of the research performed and an objective discussion of its significance. Fabrication, falsification, and inappropriate data manipulation are strictly prohibited and will result in immediate rejection or retraction. All authors listed on a submission must have made a substantive contribution to the work and must consent to its submission. Any research involving human participants or animal subjects must have received appropriate ethical approval, which must be disclosed in the manuscript. Concerns regarding research or publication misconduct raised at any stage will be investigated in accordance with COPE guidelines.
Peer Review Policy
All research articles, short communications, and review articles submitted to the journal undergo rigorous double-blind peer review. Upon submission, manuscripts are first assessed by an editor for scope, originality, and basic quality standards before being assigned to at least two independent expert reviewers. Reviewers evaluate the scientific soundness, methodological rigor, and clarity of the manuscript, and provide recommendations to the handling editor. Authors are typically notified of an initial editorial decision within six to eight weeks of submission. Revisions may undergo additional rounds of review as needed. The final decision to accept, reject, or request further revision rests with the handling editor, in consultation with the Editor-in-Chief where necessary.
Open Access Policy
The journal operates under a full open-access model, ensuring that all published content is freely and immediately available to readers worldwide without subscription fees or access barriers. Publication is free of charge to authors; the journal does not currently levy article processing charges. Articles are made available under terms that permit reuse for research and educational purposes with appropriate attribution. We believe that unrestricted access to scientific findings, particularly those concerning infectious disease in resource-limited regions, accelerates scientific progress and public health impact.
Copyright Policy
Authors retain copyright of their published work. By submitting a manuscript, authors grant the journal a non-exclusive license to publish, distribute, and archive the article under an open-access license. Authors are free to distribute their own published work, including posting to institutional repositories or personal websites, provided the original publication in the journal is properly cited. Any third-party content included in a submission, such as figures or data reproduced from other sources, must be accompanied by appropriate permissions prior to publication.
Plagiarism Policy
The journal has zero tolerance for plagiarism in any form, including verbatim copying, close paraphrasing without attribution, and self-plagiarism of previously published work. All submitted manuscripts are screened using similarity detection tools prior to entering peer review. Manuscripts found to contain substantial unattributed overlap with existing publications will be returned to the authors or rejected outright, depending on the severity of the overlap. Instances of plagiarism identified after publication will be addressed through correction or retraction in accordance with our publication ethics procedures.
